Stats: New Mutants go 4:0 at the first London GT

Norbert did it again 😉 Let's take a look at the stats for the first ever London GT where as the title already spoiled someone took New Mutants to a 4:0 finish. That someone is one of the hosts of the fantastic Rapid Fire Podcast Redcathal, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at last year's WTC. I'm sure he'll cover his run on his podcast but otherwise I'd be very interested in hearing more about his list and play style with this not much loved affiliation. Importantly he didn't win day 1 of the GT but got second place because of SOS. That honor goes to another Irish player in Mike Porter who brought Inhumans, which were very popular at the event as we'll see.  That's a very interesting and unusual spread of affiliations here. Loads of Inhumans, Criminals and Avengers are pretty expected but Spider-Foes showing up with 4 players (of 48 total) is a surprise and probably an even bigger one is just a single Web Warriors player and only two Apocalypse one. ...

What makes a Spender a good Spender?

An old common wisdom in MCP was to almost always avoid using a Spender as the trade off wasn't worth it. Getting just a few more dice on the attack but having to pay instead of gaining power could tax your own power economy too hard to be worth it, while the increased damage would power up your opponent.  Nowadays that has changed quite a bit and a lot more spenders are seen as being very good. But what does make a Spender a good Spender?  1. Power to Dice conversion  AMG lately seems to have come to the standard of having a Spender with 7 dice cost 3 power, 8 dice cost 4 power and 9-10 dice cost 5 power. A better conversion rate than this means a Spender might be worth it for the sheer amount of dice gained by the power spent. Spenders with a worse conversion rate need to tick at least a couple of the following boxes to be worth it.  2. Dice triggers Dice face triggers, usually wilds, often represent the main reason to choose a Spender over a builder or gaine...

Evaluating my competitive Guardians list

If you read this blog regularly you might know that my current main Affiliation is also my favorite group in the comics (and two of their movies even though they have barely more in common to their comic versions than their names). I have played them for our last two German speaking TTS leagues, going 3:2 in the affiliation battle season and again 3:2 in out latest standard format one. Both losses in the latest round were super close in being 14:16 against Web Warriors and 15:16 against Criminals. Both were lost because my attrition couldn't fully keep up with their objective scoring.  Today I want to look at the roster and evaluate each and every choice here from characters to TTCs and crisis cards.  Characters (10) Agent Venom (4) A. An absolute lock for the roster. Venom combines damage outpost with mobility and control making him a great tool to have in many situations. Not an every game character but certainly not someone I'm looking to drop anytime soon.  Bet...

Does every X-Men have a unique downside?

Mutants are the clear cut favorite child of AMG in terms of miniatures, building options and releases, which is understandable since they are Marvels overall best liked property after Spider-Man (and you could argue that the Web Warriors could be a favorite child of AMG in terms of rules, though OG Peter Porker certainly doesn't fall into that description). But all that currently doesn't really translate into great success for the mutant teams, expect for the Servants of the Apocalypse, at the moment. A reoccurring thing you hear in the community is, that every X-Men has a unique downside compared to similar characters in their threat level. Is that true? I don't know honestly, so let's check it out for ourselves today.  (Click on the images to enlarge them) Angel is fast, has displacement and can place allies with the very basic 3 threat profile of 3/3/3 5/5. He does have Healing Factor though which will not make a huge difference but in a team full of HF characters ...
