The most taken affiliations got the most games, so far so expected. How did they do in those games?
The one Hydra player (who had a dual with which he played one of the 5 games) did pretty well with 3:1 in his Hydra games.
Founder of the popular Invaders double bubble SHIELD list Jim Gradwell went 4:1 with Namor collecting the majority of the wins for SHIELD here.
And then we have the first Affiliation with a really meaningful amount of games and a 63% win rate for the Servants of the Apocalypse is a bad sign. As much as we all love the overall design of the faction I feel something has to be done here.
Redcathal of the excellent Rapid Fire Podcast brought New Mutants to the event and won 3 of 5. Considering it's a tiny Affiliation with not the very best characters on their short list that's quite an achievement at such a competitive event.
Unbelievably Maximus the Mad (in very few games of course) had an even better win rate than Black Bolt for the Inhumans who are the only faction currently in competition with Apocalypse for number 1 in the game. For them it be an easy fix. Rotate Terrigenesis. Yes JJ was always right and this card shouldn't still be in the game so many years after it's release. You absolutely wouldn't knock the Inhumans down too much with it gone I think.
Few people brought X-Men, but those who did were pretty successful in staying at 50:50 or above for all three leaders.
Criminal Syndicate was most successful as an attrition team under Shadowland Daredevil and just missed the mark of 50% under Kingpin (which is a surprise) while MODOK led Criminals weren't especially lucky.
Web Warriors were pretty unpopular at the event but Miles did show he's still relevant in today's game.
Ok performances for both A-Force and Cabal in their limited games and Spider-Foes, who had an absolutely terrible WTC 24, at least reached 50% this year on the back of Doc Ock.
While the Avengers had the fourth most games of the event they were the only of the top 4 used affiliations who missed a 50% win rate and untypically Sam was the one dragging them down. Steve Cole went a perfect 5:0 with Steve 1.
Midnight Sons, the fifth most used affiliation, missed the 50% Mark even more.
Defenders weren't especially popular which is a bit surprising but updated Doctor Stranges best competitive home is probably Midnight Sons and the current meta isn't super friendly to Daredevil led Defenders so it's understandable.
Wakanda somewhat struggled at the event.
And Asgard, despite Italy Maestro captain Diomlord playing them, struggled heavily.
Guardians of the Galaxy were rather often taken as the 5th team which makes sense as they don't really take anyone else's toys besides Bill but it didn't work out great it seems.
Going into the tournament with Legion, Winter Guard or Weapon X has already an uphill battle so it's nice they all at least got a win.
Top 10 teams (A * means I had them in my top 10 before the event):
The team of the second Rapid Fire Podcast host Angus marks the start of the top 10 teams of the event.
Nice to see my Austrian friends reach the top 10 here! ๐ *
The main competitive polish team showed again that they have to taken very seriously.*
The lesser known Canadian team reached the top 7 and did so with Weapon X and Guardians of the Galaxy and more importantly without Inhumans in their rosters!
The Portuguese made quite a splash at their first WTC going 4:1 also without an Inhumans player.
Very strong performance by the Stockholm Team of Sweden.
The 23 champions put in another strong performance and had the best team name in my opinion.*
Pork Roll Protocol made it all the way to the final where they ultimately lost. They were the highest placed North American team at the event.*
WTC 24 champions Italy Maestro reached the second place even with a last minute replacement player.*
And this isn't too big of a surprise. with absolutely no disrespect to any team involved I think they were clearly the team to beat if you wanted to win the event and frankly that was something no team could manage.*
Congratulations to everyone and I heard it was a top notch event once again.
And finally big news for next year:
The WTC 26 will be held on November 14th and 15th in Shiphol (Amsterdam), Netherlands which makes it much more likely that we'll have a German team! ๐
I'm going to do everything I can to be there next year (and the way being just about a 3 hour train ride leaves me very few excuses) and hope to see you all there!
Cheers from Germany ๐ป
