My War of Kings season Legion of the Lost list

Next week here in Germany and Austria we'll start our summer season of the German speaking TTS league which will be War of Kings this time. And today I will show you my Legion of the Lost roster that I will use during the season:

(Click on the images to enlarge them)

Characters (10)

* Mephisto, Lord of Temptation (5)

The big man himself and the reason for the entire roster. Mephisto ist the obvious every game character here because I don't bring any other leadership choice. I love his model and how my paint job of him worked out. He's also a tonne of fun to play on the table.

Ultron, Metal Tyrant (5)

Ultron, Metal Tyrant brings the important Grunts which work really well as Associates for Mephisto. Ultron himself is no slouch either and can hold his own on a flank pretty easily. He also brings guaranteed displacement, which as you'll see is part of the theme here.

Bob, Agent of Hydra (2)

Bob is here because I think having a 2 threat is important with having a 5 threat leader. Bob is also a great candidate for being an Associate for Mephisto because he's very hard to actually fully take off the board. And he offers some mobility and a single big shot.

Gorgon (3)

Gorgon is here as a very reliable and self sufficient 3 threat with guaranteed displacement on his spender and action economy through charge.

Lizard (3)

Lizard is a classic pick for a fast and durable objective runner.

Sabretooth, Apex Predator (4)

Apex Predator is a character that is here because of the leadership. He is among the best characters in the game in terms of turning power into damage, potentially including displacement. The premier Brawler 4 threat here.

I only own a Print of Apex as his box is eye wateringly expensive and I don't care too much for Logan, the Wolverine. At least the terrain is usable from that box.

Weapon X (3)

Threeverine is probably a more spicy pick here, as multiple of the War of Kings crisis combinations include Pay to Flips which he hates. He's a monster on regular secures though and has already won me a game single handedly. If you want to be boring you could put Baron Zemo here and it would probably be better overall but this roster is very much a collection of minis I simply wanted to play that hopefully have some synergy together.

Spider-Woman (4)

Jessica was a rather late addition to the roster. I decided that I wanted to have the option for a Steal and she'll be great on Terrigen Canisters. She'll also come out on the very wide maps.

Venom (4)

Venom is here because I think he and Mephisto could become best buddies. Mephisto helps Venom with his mobility issues and Venom can use So Many Snacks after he took a hit for the big red man. Venom also offers more guaranteed displacement.

Sentinel Prime MK4 (5)

Sentinel Prime was the last addition and was my brother's idea. I was looking for a reroll bubble mostly for Mephisto himself and didn't think Shuri, iTony or Professor X would make it to table often even if they'd be in the roster. Prime will not see the table super often either but he's basically a cool upgrade on Venom.
With him 5 of 10 models in the roster are also poison immune so Terrigen Canisters will not be a big deal for me 😅

There's currently simply no way to get an official Sentinel Prime in Germany but I'm also waiting for the 2026 re release to get one.

Team Tactics (10)

Devil‘s Reckoning

The card is my leadership so I'll have to bring it every single game. Its strength lies in the part where you can bring any model in game and still be affiliated for the leadership. Damnation in itself is fine but definitely on the lower end of leaderships. It doesn't do anything round 1 but adds up to a decent bit of extra power over the game. Beware both parts of it resolve the cleanup phase, so no putting Incinerate on dazed models for your opponent but also no giving power to dazed models of your own.

Brace for Impact (R)

The only real decision here is which artwork you want your Brace to have.

Fall Back (R)

I'm with Mike DeLuca on the "Fall Back is the best Restricted (after Brace)" camp. Especially since I have multiple Sacrifice like effects already. You could make an argument for Patch Up with the high average health pools in the list but Fall Back still feels more impactful to me.

Instant Recovery

Having three Healing Factor models in the roster makes the card a worthwhile roster inclusion. It will only make the 5 when at least two of them are in the squad though.

Happy Birthday, Runt!

It's a great personal TTC for Victor Creed especially as it is only active and doesn't require it to be Apex' activation to play it.

Royal Guardians

It's all about keeping the Devil alive here and if we have to sacrifice the Goat Boy from Attilan for it so be it. Handing out Shock and Stun is also nice should he survive.

Recalibration Matrix

Big dice pools and big centerpiece models in the roster making Recal a good generic card to pick.

Up the Ante

Up the Ante is my favorite Mephisto card. I'll have to learn to properly use it during the league.

Warpath

Warpath is just a generally useful card. Fun with Venom who can use it to get into range for his counter attack for example but also great with characters like Ultron to negate any displacement.

Lethal Protector

Another Sacrifice like effect this time for Venom. So I have a lot of attack redirection possibilities.

Since it's a War of Kings league we don't need to include any Crisis Cards as the combinations per round are predetermined by the WoK inlet. They are as follows:

1. Inhuman Weapons/ Strike Team

2. Unexpected Guests / Wedding Party

3. Ship Security/ Shi'ar Empress

4. Terrigen Canisters/ Deadline

5. Samples / M'Kraan

(You can see them fully here on the AMG website , except for Strike Team and Ship Security who didn't make it into the standard rotation. You can see them on Jarvis Protocol)

3 of 5 secures here are Pay to Flips which I might struggle a bit with since Mephisto is the only model here gaining multiple power per Power Phase and he doesn't really like his turn 1 to be move pick-up, move flip the point but we'll see how it shakes out. I had considered Lady Sif for the list but she ultimately lost her spot to Spider-Woman.

My goal for the League:

Getting 5 games with Legion of the Lost so that I'll be able to get the 10 games badge before the end of the year.
I'd like to go at least 1:4 but would be fine with going 0:5 as long as I have fun playing the list. It's a fun summer league with a special format so I don't take it as seriously as our regular seasons.

I'll have a review of the list and any changes I want to make including which Crisis cards I'll take in Standard after the league.

That's it for today.

Cheers from Germany 🍻

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character and if you own core set 2 you h...

Affiliation Overview: Defenders (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  Defenders are a giant affiliation containing both the more mystic focused Defenders of Doctor Strange and also the Marvel Knights which made up the Netflix show Defenders.  On the board Defenders have a super deep roster with a tonne of great characters and some variety in play style.  How to start the affiliation Update: In Q2 2025 AMG releases the Defenders affiliation pack which uniquely comes with five models in Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You have to pick this pack up first and absolutely should.  After that I would first pick up Shang-Chi and Silver Sable followed by Hulk and then Namor and Black Panther, Chosen of Bast. You have your core very much there. The affiliation is very deep and has a lot of good characters but with those mentioned you have your probably most used models in hand already. Also all of the affiliated TTCs. Just note that Pentagrams of Falafel (let me have fun with t...

Affiliation Overview: Uncanny X-Men (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  X-Men are far and away the most popular Marvel part after the overall most popular character in the world (Spider-Man). They are not only a favourite of the community but also clearly of AMG being the faction with the most build options for their characters.  On the table they are super flexible, have a huge list of affiliated models and very strong TTCs.  How to start the affiliation  Update: from October 2025 AMG releases new single Person starter sets. One of them is the X-Men starter set:  Aside from the ten characters it also contains ten dice and the measuring tools. The X-Men starter (which is a Brotherhood of Mutants starter at the same time) is a permanent addition to the line up, whereas the Spider-Foes one will only he sold for a limited time.  The new starter set is absolutely the perfect first purchase for X-Men but until then the X-Men affiliation pack is the best starting point giving you two of you...
