August 25 affiliation stats

Welcome to the August stats article. By now you probably know the drill: we start with All Events (AE) and cover Rated Singels Events (RSE) afterwards. Let's get right into it:

Being well over 60% win rate with close to 300 games shows: Inhumans under BB1 are over the curve. At least Maximus drags the overall numbers down a tiny bit.

July: 3. +2

Who is Black Bolt? King T is crushing those numbers easily. Of course he did it in less then 10% of the games played of BB but who wants to look that closely 😄 his classic version must've also found a strong player forcing it and M'Baku posted good numbers too while even KM, U got to 50/50 this month.

July: 4. +2

With all the talk being about Kingpin and Shadowland Daredevil for CS (and both did fantastic) MODOK quietly had an awesome month in the few games he's been played. The same can't be said for Klaw, but overall Criminal Syndicate dominated in August.

July: 6. +3

Servants of the Apocalypse get their lowest rank since February! Down and out? No of course not they were still closer to 60% than 50.

July: 2. -2

Namors extremely strong August carried SHIELD to a top 5 rank while the other three leaders all struggled heavily.

July: 7. +2

Very few games played but to great success for Hydra.

July: 22. + 16

A-Force couldn't reach 100 games played but at least did well in the 90 that did get played.

July: 23. +16

If you listen to some recent podcasts you'd get the impression that no one would be playing Web Warriors at the moment which, as we see here, is certainly not true. And while they aren't dominating in the way they used to, they certainly are still firmly among the top 10 affiliations.

July: 17. +9

Convocation safely passed 100 games and won more than they lost.

July: 1. -8

Green Goblin led Spider-Foes absolutely exploded in popularity and that might have had a bit of a negative effect on his win rate but it's still a perfect 50/50. Doc Ock had a good month to help stay in the top 10.

July: 10. Same

Dormammu staying perfectly even keeps scratching at the top 10.

July: 9. -2

Avengers almost reached 600 games played but Steve Rogers in both versions dragged down the stats of top leaders Sam and obviously Hulkbuster.

July: 12. Same

Loki has clawed Back the best Asgard leader Tag and Jane had a down month.

July: 15. +3

Doctor Strange Defenders remain very popular but can't quite reach the 50% mark, still.

July: 16. +2

A very good month for Mystique is counter acted by a below average month for Magneto who had almost twice the amount of games played for the Brotherhood of Mutants.

July: 25. +10

Very pedestrian numbers for Blade and bad ones as usual at this point for Elsa.

July: 19. +3

Not even 50 games played in the month is low even for Weapon X standard.

July: 24. +7

X-Men have gotten a lot of popularity back reaching almost 500 games played. I think that will only increase with the X-Men starter set coming out soon. Very unusual to see Storm being the least used leader by a mile here but the total numbers of games not nearly add up to the total so we might not have the full story here.

July: 20. +2

Guardians still somewhat struggle to get back to 50% but they sure don't struggle to find people willing to play them nonetheless (like me for example).

July: 11. -8

I might be very wrong here but I feel that Criminal Syndicate takes away a lot of the potential Cabal players at the moment. 179 is a lot more than many other affiliations can sport of course but it still feels low for a core box affiliation that has so many affiliated models.

July: 13. -7

A nice number of games played for Thralls of Dracula 😉 not a lot of success though.

July: 8. -13

Both fewer games and wins for the other 5 threat Cabal member with an everyone is in affiliation TTC. I can proudly claim to have added two games to the total here. Not wins though 😅

July: 18. -4

Despite a constant below average showing X-Force still has its loyal fans keeping it above 100 games played.

July: 21. -2

Winter Guard as least made it to 50 games.

July: 14. -10

Almost 50 games is a new high for Hellfire Club since they've become a real Affiliation.

July: 7. -18

Some people stoicly stick to playing pre update Sentinels to limited success.

July: 27. +1

New Mutants had a little high after Cathal proved that they could be successful at a big tournament but that didn't last.

July: 5. -22

Black Order needs something to be relevant again. I have an idea of what and when that will be. More on that in my next article.

July: 26. -2

Rated Single Events

Not a different story at all in RSE for the Inhumans who absolutely dominate.

July: 3. +2

Wakanda, led by strong performances of M'Baku and sprinkled with fantastic results from both T'Challa leaderships, sit comfortably at rank 2.

July: 7. +5

Beating out all of the top 5 by almost 100 games, Criminal Syndicate were extremely popular in RSE in August and it proved to be the right choice except when Klaw was chosen as the leader.

July: 5. +2

Web Warriors probe that they aren't down and out because of Apocalypse (still a terrible matchup for them though) but actually top him.

July: 17. +13

Servants of the Apocalypse being only rank 5 can be considered a down month for them as they have also been 1 or 2 since March. They are still very strong but probably people have more experience and tech against them nowadays.

July: 2. -3

Namor alone would rival the top spots but Fury drags SHIELD out of the top 5.

July: 4. -2

For Hydra Baron Strucker had a great month in his limited amount of games.

July: 14. +7

Convocation almost made it to 100 games played and they won more than they lost, but couldn't keep up with their July high.

July: 1. -7

Avengers take the crown in games played in RSE, too and here Hulkbuster and Sam aren't as dragged down by the two Steve Rogers but where still better than them.

July: 10. +1

A-Force barely passed 50 games played and did fine in them.

July: 25. +15

Loki is back with a vengeance for Asgard and Thor 1 leadership also hand a food month, while the same can't be said for Jane.

July: 24. +13

A lot of games and decent success for Spider-Foes in RSE.

July: 11. -1

A surprisingly dominant RSE month for Mystique; not a great one for Magneto.

July: 18. +5

Dormammu isn't top tier but still absolutely viable in RSE.

July: 7. -7

Since the total amount of games with a chosen leader comes only out to 107 and it's pretty unlikely that 19 Cabal games have been played leaderless it's a bit hard to draw conclusions.

July: 13. -2

Defenders have been very popular in RSE and haven't been terrible but not great either.

July: 12. -4

Legion of the Lost almost made it to 50/50 in only 40 games played in RSE.

July: 23. +6

Midnight Sons definitely had a down month in RSE. They were still in reach of 50% win rate but fell short of it anyway.

July: 21. +3

Winter Guard also made it to 40 games played but with them we start to get well below 50%.

July: 16. -3

Top tier numbers for Professor X but desaterous ones for both Storm and Cyclops here tanking the X-Men down.

July: 22. +2

25 RSE games barely qualifies Weapon X to get a rank here and they have been below average in their outtings, too.

July: 18. -3

Close to 300 RSE games for the Guardians of the Galaxy but firmly more losses than wins during the month.

July: 8. - 14

Thralls of Dracula could beat Mephistos LotL in games played but not in win rate.

July: 20. -3

Hellfire Club at least got enough RSE games in this month to actually get a rank though they can't be described as successful in any way shape or form...

July: Not Ranked.

Where in AE X-Force was already subpar in RSE they were straight up terrible in August.

July: 26. +1

And finally we have the "barely any games played and won only about a third of them" club of:

Black Order

July: 27.

New Mutants

July: 9. -17

Sentinels

July: 19. -8

That's it for today.

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character and if you own core set 2 you h...

Affiliation Overview: Defenders (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  Defenders are a giant affiliation containing both the more mystic focused Defenders of Doctor Strange and also the Marvel Knights which made up the Netflix show Defenders.  On the board Defenders have a super deep roster with a tonne of great characters and some variety in play style.  How to start the affiliation Update: In Q2 2025 AMG releases the Defenders affiliation pack which uniquely comes with five models in Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You have to pick this pack up first and absolutely should.  After that I would first pick up Shang-Chi and Silver Sable followed by Hulk and then Namor and Black Panther, Chosen of Bast. You have your core very much there. The affiliation is very deep and has a lot of good characters but with those mentioned you have your probably most used models in hand already. Also all of the affiliated TTCs. Just note that Pentagrams of Falafel (let me have fun with t...

Affiliation Overview: Midnight Sons (updated rewrite)

Why should you play the affiliation? These are Marvels best Earth based characters. This is a definite objective fact and not just my personal feeling.  They also offer a wide variety of play styles and affiliated models.  How to start the affiliation Update:  Blade, Moon Knight, Doctor Voodoo and Ghost Rider will be combined into a MS affiliation pack, with their current stat cards in all four langues and new art. It releases in April.  Your first purchase here is probably still Blade (leader) and Moon Knight but you could also now start with Elsa Bloodstone (leader) and Man-Thing. Both are good value boxes as both come with a leader and a good affiliated 3 threat. So in the end it's probably best to just get both. Next up you'll want to look at getting a high threat model for which you have 3 options that all have their unique strengths and reasons to be picked. The biggest threat investment but also by far and large his best home comes in the Immortal Hulk. Ghost ...
