Hot takes: Spider-Man Noir, Silk and Spider-Ham

AMG has graced us with a new From Panel to Play finally and the first of the nine new characters coming to the game in October to be fully shown are Spider-Ham (whose front side we already knew), Spider-Man Noir and Silk. Let's dig in:

Nothing changes on the backside for Peter Porker and that means he's going to be fun and interesting if not especially reliable. His strongest and most boring play pattern might be to grab an extract and hide behind terrain using his size 1 to his advantage. Being a range 4 shock bot is probably also a good role for him if you can't handle his random whackiness.

A fun card but if, like me, you've been burned by a random effect card (Loveable misfits) more than once you won't bring this in a competitive game. It has 5 good effects on 8 die faces so it's not terrible and having your whacky 2 threat placed by your opponent isn't usually the end of the world either though. What's weird is that the card doesn't specify what effect blanks have so I'm assuming none. I think they ran out of space on the card.

The first thing sticking out on the stat card of Spider-Man Noir is who they handled the alter-ego. It allows another Peter Parker on the board with no issues as his Earth 90214 designation separates him from other Peter Parkers.

The Ol' One, Two is cool because the Two can actually hurt a lot being 7 dice instead of 4. Importantly the spender beam also counts for having attacked the defender already this Activation.

And speaking of: the Spender Beam is really cool with guaranteed Slow and Shock.

Correction: they need to deal damage.

A long range size 2 terrain throw gives extra damage potential and the combination of Inured to Pain and Spider-Sense makes Noir a very tanky 3 threat. He lacks any form of mobility typical for Spider-People though.

From interviews we know that one of the two upcoming X-Factor Investigations leaderships were inspired by this cards mechanics (however that will look in the end) and it's certainly a bit complicated at first read. But it comes down to: there have to have been three enemy interacts in R3 of Noir and he has to daze/KO one enemy model and live through to the Clean Up Phase (any that is) and then you gain 2 VPs.

Noirs biggest problem here will be his lack of mobility to be in range of the interacts and to catch someone he can daze/KO. Very fun card anyway and definitely worth a try especially on Pay to Flips.

Silk brings quite a lot of abilities to the table. Long move Wall Crawler makes her as fast as Nova, both versions of Gwen Stacy and classic Spider-Man in terms of Movement actions, though she lacks additional movement tech in her activation. Instead she has Mysterios trap that let's her advance short if it deals damage. And her rather expensive spender basically includes a Web Swing.
Her best attack is probably her Gainer Beam that has a wild slow trigger, which pairs great with her Web of the Bride innate superpower.
And finally the best thing on her card is her Sil Sense which includes mystic unlike most Spider-Senses and also let's her reroll Skulls.

A-

A card that seems to be made for the Web Warriors mirror or to hunt Wolverines. The additional reroll all once per round for Silk or an allied character is a nice bonus.
Importantly when she has played the card and uses her Beam or Area attack, all attacks have to be changed to Mystic as it happens or targeted.

Overall it's a very good character pack for the Web Warriors with three strong characters, Spider-Ham mostly due to his threat level, and decent personal TTCs for all of them. I think Spider-Man Noir will actually have the biggest competitive impact here as his damage reduction to 0 is going to be very strong in combination with his Spider-Sense and Miles leadership.

That's it for today.

Cheers from Germany 🍻

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character and if you own core set 2 you h...

Affiliation Overview: Defenders (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  Defenders are a giant affiliation containing both the more mystic focused Defenders of Doctor Strange and also the Marvel Knights which made up the Netflix show Defenders.  On the board Defenders have a super deep roster with a tonne of great characters and some variety in play style.  How to start the affiliation Update: In Q2 2025 AMG releases the Defenders affiliation pack which uniquely comes with five models in Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You have to pick this pack up first and absolutely should.  After that I would first pick up Shang-Chi and Silver Sable followed by Hulk and then Namor and Black Panther, Chosen of Bast. You have your core very much there. The affiliation is very deep and has a lot of good characters but with those mentioned you have your probably most used models in hand already. Also all of the affiliated TTCs. Just note that Pentagrams of Falafel (let me have fun with t...

Affiliation Overview: Midnight Sons (updated rewrite)

Why should you play the affiliation? These are Marvels best Earth based characters. This is a definite objective fact and not just my personal feeling.  They also offer a wide variety of play styles and affiliated models.  How to start the affiliation Update:  Blade, Moon Knight, Doctor Voodoo and Ghost Rider will be combined into a MS affiliation pack, with their current stat cards in all four langues and new art. It releases in April.  Your first purchase here is probably still Blade (leader) and Moon Knight but you could also now start with Elsa Bloodstone (leader) and Man-Thing. Both are good value boxes as both come with a leader and a good affiliated 3 threat. So in the end it's probably best to just get both. Next up you'll want to look at getting a high threat model for which you have 3 options that all have their unique strengths and reasons to be picked. The biggest threat investment but also by far and large his best home comes in the Immortal Hulk. Ghost ...
