But that shouldn't detract from the main focus of the article: finding models to fulfill specific roles if the best in class model is already taken by a team mate.
We will go through some of the most common splash models in competitive singles list and try to find some alternatives for them. Starting with: Shang-Chi
Shang is the most common splash model currently and for good reason. He is mobile, tough, has great damage output and control. I would be very surprised if any WTC Team would not have him in their 50 characters. But who could play his role in the other four teams?
Now there is a big chance that the team includes a Servants of the Apocalypse player which would most likely mean that Psylocke isn't available to anyone else but if that isn't the case she absolutely shouldn't be overlooked.
She lacks Shangs control but is arguably more mobile and has dice fixing and stealth. She also has the even better version of chosing damage type on her Builder making her a Red Skull 2 assassin.
If on the other hand you're in need of a fast and durable 4 threat that has good displacement classic Black Panther ticks all of those boxes for you. The combination of Pounce and Mantle makes his damage ceiling higher than Shangs himself.
Gwenpool is a raw ball of stats. She isn't super special in anything she does but everything on her card is good. She's the pick if it's Shangs durability you're mostly after.
Ultimate Spider-Man should be legal for WTC, though it's hard to say if he's actually available before the event. He combines mobility with durability, damage output and control.
An Oldie but Goldie Vision brings one of the games best throws to the table as well as a good Beam and (dice dependent) durability.
Another character that might be hard to physically get onto the table in time for WTC but a raw damage output (and mobility) Shang substitute if that's what you're looking for.
Lady Sif is fast with her always turned on charge and the follow up trigger on her Builder and she is very tanky and can dish out a lot of damage. And she has decent control options on her attacks though both are trigger dependent. Having Master Swordswoman does help a lot with that though.
Thank you at Shaun from the SGP Discord for reminding me about Ben Riley. A character that brings displacement for days and is decently tough to boot.
Next in the series:
Baron Zemo
That's it for today.
Cheers from Germany 🍻
