Team Tournament alternatives 3 - Black Cat

We continue to go through some of the most common splash models in competitive singles list and try to find some alternatives for them. Today: Black Cat

To say Black Cat is pushed is an understatement. In the undying words of Joey Tribinani:

While she isn't breaking the game on her own and isn't as universally great for every list as Baron Zemo (though there's a good argument that she is even more valuable) but she makes otherwise good models completely useless when she does she same thing, but better and then three other things on top of what anyone else at her threat level can.
So today we look at all of her four main strengths and find some replacement for one of them. Which are: Speed, Durability*, Stealing and the Control of enemy Kaijus (through Stagger)

*We'll have an article about Luke Cage down the line so the real tanks will bei in that one here it's more about Extracts Runners

Speed (carrying an Extract around the board)

Long Move, Stealth, Range 2 Place, decent enough attacks and Coiled Serpent. Everything on Vipers card is good. It's very far from Black Cat but if it's her mobility and Extract play you are after Viper could be worth a look.

Shadowcat has the same core of Long Move, Stealth and a Range 2 Place but better attacks in exchange for a slightly worse defensive ability (which is honestly debatable). In theory she brings a Steal with her TTC Hold Still but since that one requires a wild trigger it's hard to recommend it for any kind of competitive play.

Speed, Durability and Steal

Just replace your S tier splash with a another one. I'd raise my eyebrows high if not at least 3/4s of WTC teams have Miles in them regardless of whether they have a Web Warriors player or not.

Speed and Durability

Lizard is hardly a hot take here but he's just very reliable at being a fast tough potato. He also adds some control.

Controlling High Threat enemy characters

If for some reason your Team has no Inhumans player and Gorgon is available grab him. He can't keep up with most of the other characters on this list on terms of Speed but he has action compression and his Spender is straight up fantastic.

Firewall is a fantastic superpower against a lot of Kaijus and Pyro brings good attacks and a Steal per TTC Pyrotechnics to the table. He is not tough at all though so be careful with that.

Shocker is pretty far on the other side of the strength curve compared to Felica but he can be decently annoying to throw into your opponents big bad and maybe get a Stagger off.

Next in the series:
Beta Ray Bill

That's it for today.

Cheers from Germany 🍻

Affiliation Overview: Spider-Foes (2026 update)

Why should you play the affiliation  Are you a somewhat of a scientist yourself? Do you like crushing arachnids? Do you love making overly complicated plans and see them ruined by a teenager?  Spider-Foes are a super fun faction, which boosts the best looking line of miniatures in the game and a very fun and unique play style with tricks and traps.  How to start the affiliation  As long as it's available you absolutely start with the Spider-Foes Starter set. It's the so gle best deal in MCP and probably all of tabletop wargaming.  The only characters you're missing out of the affiliation after that are:  Kingpin (available in the Criminal Syndicate Affiliation pack, which is a good additional pick up after the starter set)  Doctor Octopus (available in the Spider-Foes Affiliation Pack or Rivals Panel)  Doc Ock, Sinister Scientist (available in the Earth Mightiest Core Set, a good additional pick up if you need terrain) Venom (currently de f...

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character and if you own core set ...

Ministravaganza 25 reactions

Wow Ministravaganza 25 did a lot in just 35 mins of MCP this year. Let's dive right in and see if my predictions were even close to correct:  1. Roadmap We're immediately starting out with a banger here. Everything on Iron Lads card is just very good. His builder has a "for every wild" trigger with slow and stun which are both great, his Gainer can push, his Spender can automatically reroll any number of dice, he can remove a damage or special condition for a single power, has a size 2 terrain throw and can reroll attackers dice (just for himself but still). He's an extremely well rounded 3 threat.  A.  The first ever 3 threat on a 65mm base! And oh my what a 3 threat that is. A good builder that can choose to be physical or energy is followed by a great spender that has a throw and an extract steal (not just drop but actually stealing) trigger, as well has a place, rerolls and damage reduction. He is confirmed to be a member of the Criminal Syndicate and will ...
