Not currently, though his model looks very cool.
Echo is basically stone cold efficiency. Everything on her card is just good without stretching the limits for a 3 threat in my opinion. She's probably going to be a staple in Criminal Syndicate for the foreseeable future (as will be Iron Monger but they fill very different roles). She's super fast (faster than Zemo 1 because she has Wallcrawler), relatively tanky and has respectable damage output. Just a good model overall.
Have I played her?
Yes, multiple times. She's been good.
Have I played against her?
No.
Do I own her?
No.
Do I plan to?
Not currently (which is surprising as I was initially looking forward to her pack).
Elsa ended up being a bit of a disappointment. Her leadership reads really cool, but simply doesn't compete with Bump in the Night (few leaderships in the entire game do though). But while her card has many similarities to Blade she does play completely different and more fun on the table. Run and Gun is awesome and definitely the main part of her kit. But that means she is super reliant on her Builder connecting. So she'll have feast or famine games and that's often not what you want out of your 4 threats.
Have I played her?
Yes multiple times. Usually under her own leadership, with which I lost.
Have I played against her?
Also multiple times and I gotta say I won all those instances...
Do I own her?
Yes, she was an instant buy for me being part of my favorite earth based affiliation (Midnight Sons).
Not super happy with my paint job on Elsa... Might redo completely honestly.
Exodus was initially viewed as the Brotherhood copy of Cable and while it sure does read similar it absolutely doesn't play out on the table the same way. Exodus is an absolute close combat tank that really laughs of any and all chip damage. His teleport being shorter than Cables and also more expensive means displacing him is super detrimental for him. He also doesn't like anyone who can take two big swings at him in one activation as it will go over the top of his tankiness especially as he can only Shield himself once per turn. My Hulk with a bit of damage on him was able to daze and then KO Exodus with one spender each where all prior attacks from my other characters basically did nothing to him.
Have I played him?
Just a quick TTS shadowbox test, not even a full game, so no not really.
Have I played against him?
Yes once with Legion of the Lost where my Gorgon spent the game throwing and Staggering Exodus with his Spender, basically taking him out of the game and once with Avengers where Hulk did Hulk things to him.
Do I own him?
No.
Do I plan to?
Not currently. I really adore his mini and would like to have him on my painting desk eventually and he's at least intriguing me to play him but at the moment I am saving some money for WTC so I have to be much more conservative with my mini purchases than usual (and there's loads of new stuff on the horizon that I won't be able to resist).
Kallark has not made much of an impact on the game despite many people getting him in the War of Kings pack. I really really like him and he was part of my Guardians list played 30 games with this year. He made it to the table 6 times and won 5 of them (he's been the wrong choice once) and been great when called upon. Winging It tokens really help him get the important damage through especially when he charges.
Gorgon is a big ball of, very good stats. He is an A tier 3 threat in very regard. He's also fub to play.
Karnak is an absolute staple in Inhumans but hasn't quite made the same impact as a splash as his cousin Gorgon. He is a very good 3 though but does lack action compression. His Medidate makes up for that under Black Bolt 1 but it's what makes him less interesting to Splash.
Have I played him?
Yes and he's been decent.
Have I played against him?
No.
Do I own him?
Yes.
Maybe another candidate for a redo...
King Black Bolt is the second of three 6 threats on the list and everything on his card is just really cool and good. His problem is his alter ego where Black Bolt 1 completely kicks him out of his home affiliation. His most common place is Cyclops led X-Men.
Have I played him?
Yes and he's been pretty good but not great.
Have I played against him?
No.
Do I own him?
Yes.
Lady Mastermind is a very cool design but hasn't made the table much at all I'm afraid. I think her low defenses for a 4 threat is what's keeping her out more than anything else. She has one of the coolest Superpowers in the game in Your Reality is Whatever I Want It To Be but that is very dependent on the matchup and the actual squad your opponent is bringing. She absolutely loves to see a Black Bolt or any of the Wolverines who all have relatively low mystic defense but strong 0 power cost attacks. Apocalypse slapping his own horsemen is also nice (even though it can only ever be physical for him as that's the written type of the attack).
Have I played her?
Not at all I'm afraid.
Have I played against her?
Once, but she didn't really do anything that game, being taken off the board quickly by Mephisto.
Do I own her?
No.
Do I plan on getting her?
Not currently (see Exodus for the reasoning).
Man-Thing is amazing. Very slow early on and his damage output is pretty neglectable but he's incredibly tanky and his teleport is super helpful once he's built some power. Displacement from Range 3 is also great on his builder, even though personally I haven't gotten the trigger once yet...
Have I played him?
Yes and he's done his job of walking to a point and being incredibly hard to be removed from there admirably.
Have I played against him?
Yes and he's done the same for my opponents he did for me and he was still fantastic at it.
Do I own him?
Yes he was an instant buy for me.
I really like playing Maximus even though his leadership lost the only game I tried it. Still not especially sold on that but he as a character is just a lot of fun. Did You Forget Why You're Here might just be my favorite superpower in the game. I adore Bows (advancing enemy models), which you basically always want to do to an activated model anyway and Max can use his Bow on his allies to help get them onto a point as well. His Spender, which he'll get off at least once a game (after he flipped) is also simply fantastic (if expensive). He basically got a buff by the collision changes and probably will make it back into my current Avengers roster simply because I love playing him. And 1 power cost Did You Forget and It's Madness also sound really good don't they?
Have I played him?
Yes and I really enjoyed it.
Have I played against him?
No, as I said before Inhumans are as popular as their comics here (Max is also great in the War of Kings saga by the way. He does invent the "Advanced Weaponry" the crisis card speaks of which actually are "guns" that shoot out a recording of Black Bolts voice).
Do I own him?
Yes.
Best character ever. Nuff Said.
No seriously if you've been here before you might have caught on about me being a giant fan of Richard Rider, especially from the Abnett/ Lanning and Ewing years of Marvel Cosmic/ Guardians of the Galaxy. And his implementation in the game is pretty flawless. He ends up being a very good affiliated 5 threat for Guardians. He's not super splash able as he really, really likes a Winging It Token but in GotG he's won me multiple games and I think not having him in your 10 in Guardians is just objectively wrong. I personally probably overplay him but that might comes from emotional attachment (but as I've said before my favorite earth based hero is Moon Knight and I haven't played him in 90% of my Midnight Sons games, so Nova does also actually deliver on the table).
Have I played him?
Yes, 28 times (15:13).
Have I played against him?
No for some reason. Even though Guardians have been pretty popular in our TTS leagues (to be fair I only had one mirror match though, which was before the crisis change and I got tabled by CGR with a score of 15:3 in my favor...)
Do I own him?
Well, obviously.
Oh boy. Phoenix can only be described as a swing and a miss by AMG. It's rare that I need to be this hard on them and or a character but Phoenix sadly is barely playable. Nothing really makes her a desirable 6 threat compared to her peers. She is slow, her attacks are fine but nothing special and her superpowers are decent but costly. And she needs to be on a high amount of power because when she flips, which your opponent can force you to without ever attacking her once, she needs all the power in the world to not just blow her self out of the game. Her Unleashed side is also very complicated to understand fully. It's a shame because the model(s) are extremely awesome...
Have I played her?
Yes and she's been fine. But I could have achieved the same thing she did in the game with basically any 4 threat.
Have I played against her?
No. And I don't think that's likely to change any time soon sadly.
Do I own her?
Yes, she was kindly given to me to review by Asmodee Germany.
Prowler is great. He's basically an all gas no breaks scenario monster 4 threat that can throw out some punches if he needs to, including a great spender. Only ever use You're Right I can Do better if the game depends on it (or you're super flushed with power anyway), but use his Long Move, Wallcrawler, Charge as often as you can. He's going to be a main stay in Spider-Foes and Criminal Syndicate.
Have I played him?
Only in Shadowbox TTS games so far but I quickly fell in love with him.
Have I played against him?
Not yet but I'm sure I'm going to.
Do I own him?
He's going to be one of my Christmas presents.
Ronin, or as I like to call him "der Hackfleisch hassende Zerhacker" (Hash-Slinging Slasher), is a good and fast damage dealer. Nothing more and nothing less. He can hold his own in a fight on both sides of the puck but his only form of control is to slash the enemy to pieces. Overall he's decent but not a top tier 4 threat choice even in his home affiliations, which are both filles with good 4 threats and he now also has to deal with his 3 threat alter ego Hawkeye having been buffed and thus being a top choice at 3 threat.
Have I played him?
Yes and he's been feast and famine in the game. He spendered Strucker and Bucky 2 to death at the same time but later failed to get rid off the Hydra Agents with two attacks, which almost lost me the game. Not being able to push or throw really makes him live or die by the dice.
Have I played against him?
No.
Do I own him?
No.
Do I plan to?
Not currently.
Silk is the goddess of the big brain combo turn in Web Warriors where you spend resources upon resources (namely All Webbed Up, Masked Menace and a bunch of Power on Silk) for a crazy Spender that will sometimes just win you the game. She's very much a character that's designed around the Web of the Spider-Verse leadership and that's her best place. I don't think she's especially splashable but in Web Warriors she's one of the best 4s and likely a staple. Not having any alter ego problems is also a factor there.
I think Spider-Ham is a pretty difficult character to play right. He's of course cheap and in theory expandable but especially in Webs you want your models to score or deny scoring and he's not all that great at that. He's probably best used to either pick up an extract early and hide behind terrain with it for the rest of the game (if at all possible) or try and use his Web Yoink as much as possible to either pull enemy characters off points or pushing himself towards them to hopefully contest the point they are on.
Definitely my favorite character of the year after Nova. Spider-Man 2099 is just extremely fun to play. Web Whip is a drug and since I've played him exclusively under Steve 1 so far I can all hit guarantee it round 1. Under any Web (or any other) leadership it's also possible when he has a target on the midline directly in front of him. He needs to move, Gainer and then Web Whip in that situation.
My personal biggest disappointment of the year. Tigra is... fine. Which makes her not really good enough to secure a spot in the densely populated 4 threat area especially in Avengers. She's been absolutely decent in the games I played her but not enough to stay in my list. Her now having the highest amount of collision damage in the game (I'm sensing that will soon also be true for Thor 2, who is confirmed to get a buff) is certainly good but her not having Wallcrawler makes it hard to take advantage of.
Many people were afraid the sky was falling when Ultimate Spider-Man was first revealed. He ended up being probably the least impactful of the five new Web Warriors? He is certainly a good fighty 4 threat but that's basically all he does. Being fast and hitting people very hard, possibly also ob their own turns. Handing out slows and possibly displacing enemies with his builder (if they weren't slowed already) is definitely very good and he is a good model overall. He doesn't really fit the usual Web Warriors play style all that much though. I think he might start showing up as a splash more once the Shang-Chi nerfs (we already know that One Inch Punch will be reduced to Range 1 at least) are out.
I was pretty unimpressed in my original hot take on Yondu but once I've put him in the table I was a fan. He had very reliable long range damage and all his superpowers are good too. While I didn't think the health buff was completely necessary it's definitely nice to get and only makes him better. He also fought with Agent Venom and sometimes Beta Ray Bill for a place in my Squads in Guardians but he's definitely locked into to roster.
