Fury's Finest, The Danger Room, Move Move Throw and most recently the Gamers Guild
In the last one Will Shick stated that he and them felt this was a more organic way to have reactions and explanations for their decisions out than doing a roundtable with the Devs during the stream itself and I can only agree.
Having taken part in the AMA myself and having listened to all the podcasts here's what we've learned (I can only highly recommend listening to all of them yourself!):
Core Rules:
Why does the original priority winner get to choose the board edge now?
Having to deploy first without the knowledge of who goes first is viewed as a big disadvantage. So having the choice of board edge is supposed to even that out.
How did they end up at the flat 3 damage for collisions?
This was tested for 18 months and decided to be the best way to make size 1 throws more and size 3+ throws less effective. For that reason just taking away the +1 damage wasn't a solution that had the desired effect. A classic 5 health character also can't be one shot with a size 4 throw anymore.
How many pieces of terrain should be used nowadays?
18-24 with various sizes is what AMG themselves play on and would suggest. No hard rules. Ben Ransom especially also stated that you can put smaller pieces on top of size 5s or interactive terrain.
It's pretty likely that they'll release a new terrain chart soon, but they don't want any hard rules about terrain layouts.
Miniatures:
Iron Monger has loads of optional parts, including loading the missile launchers.
Rescue can be built with or without a helmet.
Kang also has an option for a gun (if I remember correctly).
Red Hulk started out having an entire car in his hands which was toned down to half one either in his hands or in base (options!). There's also a head variant with the mustache.
Definitely listen to the interview with Fury's Finest that has Dallas Kemp on the cast if you're interested in the details about the minis!
The reasoning behind the stamina changes and why areas and beams don't damage allies anymore :
Time to kill has gotten to fast over the last few years with the readily available dice fixing being one of the "offenders" which is why we've seen reroll abilities get a once per turn limitation more often than not nowadays. The other thing this creates is more power on both sides of the table. Having to chew through more stamina often leads to building more power for both the attacking and the defending character. And that is very much intentional here. AMG definitely wants to see us using more spenders and that's a way to achieve it. Both because double builder will (after the whole stamina update has rolled out) rarely be enough to take a character off the board and because characters should have more power available to them. This also plays into why areas and beams don't damage allies anymore. AMG wants us to use the characters spenders (which these often are) and not feel bad when an allied character is under the template. Pagani also stated it's a rule that's pretty often either completely forgotten or just remembered when you couldn't use the attack because you had a character with 1 HP left in range. So it's just a feels bad removed from the game entirely (no one will miss it).
Stat Card Updates:
She-Hulk will go to 10/10 health instead of 20/0.
That's the biggest change on her card not sure if the only.
The only front side thing will no longer be a staple for Gamma characters (as already seen with Abomination). It's gonna be a Bruce Banner thing from now on. They outright said Sensational She-Hulk will have a front and back and we can now assume the same will be true for Red Hulk and Leader.
Mister Sinister will get a big update (Ben Ransoms favourite).
Omega Red will get a smaller but very effective update (Will Shicks favourite).
War Machine will have a spender that you will activately want to use now.
Thor, Hero of Midgard will get a little buff to account for the core rules changes around him.
Shang-Chis One Inch Punch will be reduced to Range 1. (Possibly more changes )
When will the next crisis card pack release?
After Adepticon 26.
What was asked an answered in the Ask Me Anything?
Thoras was awesome enough to collect all the AMA questions and answers into a doc.
It's really great to see how much the company cares about the game and us players and I'm already very much looking forward to Adepticon and everything that's going to await us there. Maybe I'll get the chance to do an interview myself after that (though time difference and the fact that this is a written medium might heavily decrease my chances at that...)
That's it for today.
Cheers from Germany 🍻
