AMG has given me personally the present of finally revealing the Adam Warlock Guardians of the Galaxy leadership after teasing it in March (!) of 2025 already. Alongside the previously unknown injured side of Adam Warlock. Let's take a look:
The only change on the injured side is an additional point of Stamina. While his 3/4/3 defenses seem pretty low for a 7 or potentially 8 (in theory even 9 if you want to force it) threat we've seen on Thanos just how much impact Being of Immeasurable Power has. Combine it with the Bounded Soul Gem (see below) it's going to be incredibly hard to get rid of Adam. His offensive output still seems pretty low for his threat but keeping his team on their feet seems to be more of his focus anyway (fittingly for the Avatar of Life).
He does seem very power hungry but having recall for himself and his friends on his card is pretty impressive. A range 2 place that he'll be able to pay for easily each round as he'll have at least two power (given a Gem) or maybe three when he carries two. Gives him action economy and the two defense dice for him or allies aren't the best defensive tech but are better than nothing.
Basically stapled to Adam as it's free (though you can choose to take two other Gems to get him to 9 threat). The first part is the money here. Note that it doesn't say enemy or allied just Non-Grunt character. So remember to use it every time any (Non-Grunt) character dazes or KOes. The second part is neat but match up dependent. Beware that Poison will still impact you as that is not an enemy effect.
Now now the main star of the show:
Yeah I needed to read it two times as well. Which in turn is my only gripe with it: I think it's worded unnecessarily confusing. What it comes down to is this:
At the start of the game place one die with a Block on the card. Once per turn exchange one die in an attack, defense or dodge roll with the die on the card. And it includes Skulls for these exchanges.
I absolutely love this. I think kind of an ideal play pattern (which you only have limited control over of course) is going to be exchanging wilds you rolled on defense for blocks and vice versa. And there's definitely a trade off. To get the most out of it you'll need to steal successes from yourself to have them next turn sometimes. Or you could go the safer route and exchange for example hits and blocks for each other. The possibilities are pretty endless here and I definitely find it's great design though in a very rare circumstance this seems very much inspired by the 9th edition Aeldari Fate Dice of Warhammer 40k (even terrible games have some good rules sometimes). It may also just be a coincidence.
And let's not forget the second part that lets Adam use the superpowers on Gems for free. Before I was leaning to Bounded Soul/ Power as the configuration as I had figured he couldn't really pay for the other stones effects when his kit is already quite expensive. Now I think Bounded Soul/ Mind will be my starting point. It give him displacement which he otherwise lacks and doing it every activation for free is fantastic (as we've seen with Thanos).
Overall I think it's a leadership that is definitely worth the card slot and is very good competition to Winging It.
I was hyped for the pack already but now I simply can't wait to get the leadership on the table. About a month still... And I will resist the temptation of trying it out in TTS before I own it!
And of course I do hope the lesbian power couple it also contains will be strong as well. Their models most certainly are.
That's it for today.
Cheers from Germany 🍻
