The unbalance between how I want to play and what characters I like

Eagerly awaiting Adam Warlock and all the other new releases I'm currently feeling a bit "list homeless" (credit to Mike DeLuca for that term). In our German TTS League I'm playing Professor Xavier X-Men with a weird list that's mostly built for fun and doesn't aim to win the event (but going 3:2 in the 5 rounds would be nice). I play it because I think Xavier has one of the most fun leadership in the game. But I don't enjoy playing him himself and some of the core characters in that list all that much. On the other hand I do like the way it plays, which is a secure first scenario kind of game plan, but packs enough of a punch to fight it out if necessary.

To bring this to a point: I'm in the mood for a Type 1 kind of team. That's easy isn't it? Web Warriors, Kingpin Criminals and Hellfire Club are right there. Yeah they are and (at least the former two) they are really good at that game plan and should be the picks. But I somehow just don't like them. It's probably a bit me being the stupid Hipster that I am thinking these are figured out already and that doesn't interest me. Don't get me wrong, I like winning and having longer loosing streaks can weigh on me quite a bit but overall I value playing MY THING just higher than pure win percentage.

So what I ended up with building a Sam Avengers roster that kind of just does a poor Web Warriors impressions I'm afraid:

Characters (10)

* Captain America (Sam Wilson) (3)

Black Widow (2)

Iron Man (3)

Luke Cage (3)

King T‘Challa (5)

Squirrel Girl (4)

Ms. Marvel (3)

Ghost-Spider (3)

Prowler (4)

Crystal (3)

Team Tactics (10)

Avengers Assemble

Fall Back (R)

Helios Laser Bombardment

Heroes for Hire

Indomitable (R)

Second Wind

They Say Keep Your Enemies Close...

Vertical Assistance

Wisdom of the Ancestors

Hitech Heist

Secure Crisis

Infinity Formula Goes Missing! (B, 17)

Riots Spark Over Extremis 3.0 (D, 17)

Super-Powered Scoundrels Form Sinister Syndicate (F, 20)

Guardians Save Shi‘ar Empress in Style (M, 17)

Cosmic Invasion! Black Order Descends on Earth (D, 16)

Extract Crisis

Scientific Samples Found in Discovered Universe (D, 17)

Unexpected Guests Crash Royal Wedding (N, 17)

Mutant Extremists Target U.S. Senators! (L, 19)

Skrulls Infiltrate World Leadership (J, 20)

Struggle For The Cube Continues (F, 17)

The idea here is that almost everyone can move enemy models and mostly from pretty far away while being super mobile.

I'm not completely happy or sold on the roster but will play it for 4 games (as that will finish my 10 games of Avengers badge) and see if it fixes my urge to play a scenario team.

I guess Spider-Foes would be the next logical step as a team full of characters that I like and that are pretty good at the game plan. But Foes are already super popular in my meta and that will only increase with the Starter Set.

And the other choice would be Hellfire Club. But knowing Mr. Sinister and Omega Red will be buffed soon kills my interest in playing them right now. (Though I am definitely forward to those buffs and will probably play them after!)

Have you ever felt this way? Aiming for a play style but struggling to find the right fit?

Tell me about it on the SGP Discord

Cheers from Germany 🍻

Affiliation Overview: Spider-Foes (2026 update)

Why should you play the affiliation  Are you a somewhat of a scientist yourself? Do you like crushing arachnids? Do you love making overly complicated plans and see them ruined by a teenager?  Spider-Foes are a super fun faction, which boosts the best looking line of miniatures in the game and a very fun and unique play style with tricks and traps.  How to start the affiliation  As long as it's available you absolutely start with the Spider-Foes Starter set. It's the so gle best deal in MCP and probably all of tabletop wargaming.  The only characters you're missing out of the affiliation after that are:  Kingpin (available in the Criminal Syndicate Affiliation pack, which is a good additional pick up after the starter set)  Doctor Octopus (available in the Spider-Foes Affiliation Pack or Rivals Panel)  Doc Ock, Sinister Scientist (available in the Earth Mightiest Core Set, a good additional pick up if you need terrain) Venom (currently de f...

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

2026 Update in progress  Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character a...

Affiliation Overview: Defenders (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  Defenders are a giant affiliation containing both the more mystic focused Defenders of Doctor Strange and also the Marvel Knights which made up the Netflix show Defenders.  On the board Defenders have a super deep roster with a tonne of great characters and some variety in play style.  How to start the affiliation Update: In Q2 2025 AMG releases the Defenders affiliation pack which uniquely comes with five models in Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You have to pick this pack up first and absolutely should.  After that I would first pick up Shang-Chi and Silver Sable followed by Hulk and then Namor and Black Panther, Chosen of Bast. You have your core very much there. The affiliation is very deep and has a lot of good characters but with those mentioned you have your probably most used models in hand already. Also all of the affiliated TTCs. Just note that Pentagrams of Falafel (let me have fun with t...
