MCP Alliances and new Starter Sets reactions

Last week AMG revealed MCP: Alliances a new Spin Off game slated to release in September and today we saw new next two Starter Sets (which I predicted a couple of  months ago here) for regular MCP supposed to come out as early as July.

We'll go through everything we know about each so far and I give my honest reactions. To them.

Let's start with the easier one:

Starter Packs for Asgard and Guardians of the Galaxy

Asgard will include:

Thor, Hero of Midgard; Loki, Prince of Lies, Lady Sif; The Mighty Thor; Heimdall; Skurge; Enchantress; Angela; Valkyrie on Elendil; Warriors Three

So CP91 + CP225 + CP94

Seeing CP94 included here is definitely a big surprise as it released just last month. I would've also expected the original Asgard Affiliation pack to be among the models here personally. It's still an insanely good deal and a great way to start Asgard.

Guardians of the Galaxy will include:

Star-Lord; Rocket; Groot; Cosmic Ghost Rider; Gamora; Nebula; Drax; Ronan, the Accuser; Yondu and Nova

So a combination of CP222 + CP225 + CP126

It's a fantastic pack for my favorite Affiliation with my favorite Marvel character inside. I will never not recommend this to anyone.

MCP: Alliances

If you have no idea what that is first watch the trailer:

Let's first talk about the new alt Sculpts for Spider-people:

Black Cat is a huge improvement to her original model.

Gwen is way more dynamic here and also a step up.

From their Alliances cards we can assume the Miles and Peter versions we get are:

Spectacular Spider-Man (Peter). Here I'm not as convinced it's an improvement honestly. Is not a bad sculpt by any means but does feel less dynamic. Not everyone is a fan of the symbiotes on Specys Core Set 2 sculpt tough.

Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles). Again another good sculpt but not to the level of regular MCP Ultimate Miles (though probably a lot more stable)

I was kind of expecting them to be their two classic versions (Spider-Man and Spider-Man) as those are currently unavailable along with Gwen. It would've been a lot more confusing for new people to have them named the same though.

And now the undisputed star of the box:

This new Goblin sculpt is amazing. I can't see myself owning him and ever putting the original sculpt back on the table to be honest. And that isn't a bad miniature at all but this new one is just incredible.

The minions look great as well and I'm really looking forward to painting them.

We see that a lot of things appear to be as we are used to them in alliances with Power, Damage, and defensive stats appearing to be the same. Instead of superpowers we get Skills and instead of range and movement tools the game uses Hexes, which makes it easier to see what is in range of what etc. Also XP is an added mechanic in Alliances and allows your characters to level up during the stages of the game.

These Sentinels also look great. Not sure about their height though as the Hexes don't appear to be wide enough for 65mm bases...

My guess for the Heroes in Attack of the Sentinels is Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit and Rouge.

Am I excited for MCP Alliances? Yes absolutely! I don't really see it as an alternative to play classic MCP with my usual opponents but much more of a way to play with my friends, who maybe aren't interested in starting a new hobby for themselves. Also maybe with my wife and son. Also, as I said above, I'm looking forward to painting some goons.

I think it's a very good idea to do these and to probably have them take over the Ultimate Encounter space. I hope we will see a fair price point to these packs, which appear to have several instalments already planned. The next one after Attack of the Sentinels is most likely Avengers focused:

We also got confirmation that these packs contain the MCP stat cards for all characters in them.

And lastly the minis here are all push fit. Which, yeah I won't do. It's nice to have them designed so well that it is an option to assemble without glue but I will just add a little for the extra stability.

Super hyped to get more information about Alliances at Adepticon hopefully.

That's it for today.

Cheers from Germany 🍻

Affiliation Overview: Spider-Foes (2026 update)

Why should you play the affiliation  Are you a somewhat of a scientist yourself? Do you like crushing arachnids? Do you love making overly complicated plans and see them ruined by a teenager?  Spider-Foes are a super fun faction, which boosts the best looking line of miniatures in the game and a very fun and unique play style with tricks and traps.  How to start the affiliation  As long as it's available you absolutely start with the Spider-Foes Starter set. It's the so gle best deal in MCP and probably all of tabletop wargaming.  The only characters you're missing out of the affiliation after that are:  Kingpin (available in the Criminal Syndicate Affiliation pack, which is a good additional pick up after the starter set)  Doctor Octopus (available in the Spider-Foes Affiliation Pack or Rivals Panel)  Doc Ock, Sinister Scientist (available in the Earth Mightiest Core Set, a good additional pick up if you need terrain) Venom (currently de f...

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character and if you own core set ...

Affiliation Overview: Defenders (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  Defenders are a giant affiliation containing both the more mystic focused Defenders of Doctor Strange and also the Marvel Knights which made up the Netflix show Defenders.  On the board Defenders have a super deep roster with a tonne of great characters and some variety in play style.  How to start the affiliation Update: In Q2 2025 AMG releases the Defenders affiliation pack which uniquely comes with five models in Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You have to pick this pack up first and absolutely should.  After that I would first pick up Shang-Chi and Silver Sable followed by Hulk and then Namor and Black Panther, Chosen of Bast. You have your core very much there. The affiliation is very deep and has a lot of good characters but with those mentioned you have your probably most used models in hand already. Also all of the affiliated TTCs. Just note that Pentagrams of Falafel (let me have fun with t...
