2026 sees a continuation of the re release schedule and a lot of those models are up for a little (or sometimes bigger) update in my opinion. So here is what I expected those to be:
First of all we know that the original time frame will not work out. It's already March and we haven't even officially seen the SHIELD Affiliation Pack and the three pack with Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl and Gwenpool.
We have already gotten the updates up to and including Hawkeye at Ministravaganza though.
So what do I expect for the rest:
Sam Wilson:
The updated card will have the most current iteration of his leadership and nothing else will change. He is a very good, but ultimately fair, 3 threat.
Wasp:
The minimum change I want to, and expect to, see is that her player gets to drop the extract when she transforms into tiny form. I think she is decent otherwise. Maybe increase her Normal form speed to Long as well?
Ant-Man:
Shick and Ransom talked about how much fun Ant-Man is going to be after his update without spilling any beans at all as to what these changes are going to be. I want the same change suggested for Wasp as a minimum here as well.
War Machine:
Another model being talked about having improved a lot but without much detail on how. They did mention that you now actively want to use the Spender which is a huge step up as it is basically unusable at the moment. I would love to see some way for him to spend power additionally to that. Maybe a Taunt would be cool or if he's supposed to be the very offensively minded Stark Tech character a way to add dice (just for himself though) could be interesting.
She-Hulk:
Ben and Will have confirmed that she will get an injured side with a combined 10/10 health and that the front side only thing will be a Bruce Banner standard, not a Hulk standard from now on. This is already a big improvement but I would also like to see an increase to 4 physical defense. Incinerate on her is absolutely debilitating. A very real possibility, that not all She-Hulk players would be happy about, can be that her Bodyguard changes to a Taunt like it did for Colossus.
Ms. Marvel:
I don't think she really needs an update from a gaming aspect. What I don't like about her currently is how short the actual table time is for the much better Embiggend model at the moment. So maybe they have re designed her with more permanent ways of transforming in mind.
Squirrel Girl:
An underplayed but good model. No real update necessary. Maybe an increase to 7/6 if that's the new 4 threat standard.
Gwenpool:
An underplayed but good model. No real update necessary. Maybe an increase to 7/6 if that's the new 4 threat standard.
(Yes I did just copy and paste the text from Squirrel Girl. Call the cops!)
Weirdly we already have gotten the updates to all of Professor X, Emma Frost (thankfully as she really needed that) and Psylocke here. Which either means play testing on Jean was not finished at Ministravaganza or she doesn't get a second update.
Jean Grey:
I'm not even really sure what is wrong with her. Maybe a change up from 6/7 to 7/6 would be helpful and some kind of action compression would go a long way. Also seeing how Maximus can advance instead of push his allies and enemies that might be a decent change as well.
Juggernaut:
Don't touch him he's perfect the way he is.
Omega Red:
Will Shick said he is his favorite update of the bunch without having changed a whole lot. Some kind of speed boost be it through a medium move or action compression would go a long way. Also his Spender should have no limit on the Wild "Super Pierce".
Mr. Sinister:
Probably the one I'm most excited to see. It's a fantastic sculpt for a fantastic character that simply should see the table way more than it currently is. He is confirmed to get a bigger update but once again no details on what it will look like. He needs a usable Spender and a fundamental change to how his Genetic Samples work.
Shadow King:
He might be the one challenging Mr. Sinister the most here. He is my personal favorite sculpt in the entire game and in his current form I would rate him as basically unplayable. He just functionally does not work at all as a character. He's too slow and has far too little impact on the game to be worth his 5 threat at the moment. Any kind of Love will be highly appreciated. Astral Form not costing an Action might be the way but I feel like that's what he did in play testing that was deemed too strong.
Scarlet Witch:
Seeing Blue Marvel be such an instant menace shortly after his release shows that Wanda, who is mechanically pretty similar to him with way better TTCs to her name, has the core of a strong character in her. What he has over her is reliable Displacement. So that might be all she needs maybe? Giving her throw access to throwing characters as well?
Quicksilver:
While he isn't the very best character outside of jank lists (and those plans took a hit from the new first turn priority roll) I honestly don't think Pietro needs to be touched. Maybe an increase to 6/5 when everyone around him gets tougher as well.
The Blob:
Much maligned upon release, people had finally come around to accepting him as a very solid 3 threat. He certainly wouldn't mind a little boost but I would be totally fine with him staying as he is.
Pyro (it's a typo he isn't here, we've seen the Members of the Brotherhood pack has him inside and why wouldn't it) :
I love Pyro. He is already very good at what he does. If anything a health buff (which is supposed to come to a lot of characters) is what I would expect.
Crimson Dynamo:
The former Meta star seems unlikely to change a whole lot. I think a buff to 7/6 is very likely and I would love to see his Spender reworked into something more worthwhile.
Red Guardian:
Another rock solid model. But if Agent Widows is 6/6 so should he.
Darkstar (interestingly enough they misspelled her name on the chart):
Here we need a bigger update. She needs a way to fund her kit. Seeing as she is a Darkforce user I would like to see her getting power for Skulls she rolled. It would probably turn on her kit way more often and would have great synergy with her "Reroll All" Gainer. And a completely new Spender would also be very welcome.
Ursa Major (missing on the chart but 100% in the pack):
Damage reduction. The innate kind to a minimum of 1. 4 physical defense would also be great.
Shadowland Daredevil:
While SLDD himself isn't super exciting to play he is very good at what he does und doesn't really need an update for himself. The Hand Ninjas of course need the SHIELD Agents wording update to be able to interact with source extracts.
Klaw:
He needs action compression to function which his own leadership does give him but at the cost of having a leadership that benefits anyone else than your leader. Not sure what else to do about him than change the leadership but it feels thematic and that's always more important to AMG than in game strength. So I don't expect an update here honestly.
Elektra:
After her first Update Elektra feels fine. I don't expect something here.
Vision:
He is fantastic and more people should be playing him right now. But he often ends up the odd man out because he's only in Avengers who swim in 4s and he's not unique enough to warrant a spot as a splash most of the time. 7/6 once again probably.
Hulkbuster:
A timing change on his damage reduction. That might be the only thing he really needs but he was another model which Shick and Ransom talked about and being excited for people's reactions. Another top 5 sculpt so great to probably see him more.
Winter Soldier:
Much maligned after his second update but I've been terrorized by this man multiple times. He seems fine to me the was he is.
Hulk:
An increase the price of the throw to 3. This might be seen as the nail in the coffin of a character dying out of the meta but I think that's way overblown. He's not at his best right now but we'll have to see what the new crisis rotation will be.
Shang-Chi:
We already know his One Inch Punch will be limited to Range 1. Is that the only slap on the wrist? It might be or he might lose a die on his builder as well.
Silver Sable:
Stealth maybe? And possibly a change to a builder or even better the Builder/Gainer of Hulkbuster and Invincible Iron Man. Might be too much but I've currently never seen her on the table at all, which is a shame.
Black Panther Chosen of Bast:
I don't like him a whole lot but people have had success with him. No changes needed.
Namor:
Kill the Double Bubble! Maim it with Fire!
Seriously just make it Strategic Genius and be done with it. Namor remains a top 5 threat but the boring combination of Zemo and him carrying every list is finally gone. And Triple Bubble is dead before it becomes a problem.
That's it's for today.
Do you agree with these ideas or do you expect/wish for something completely different?
Tell me on the SGP Discord Server
Cheers from Germany 🍻
