Rotated generic TTCs and why they could come back or stay rotated

It's hard to find something interesting to write about in this weird "waiting for the huge update" phase (and the Update has been postponed until July 😩). I told my SGP Discord exactly that and got the suggestion for this article which I found would be quite a fun write and hopefully read. Full disclosure, A Goose has done a similar article some time ago but this here is absolutely unrelated to that.

I'll go over every generic TTC that has been rotated out of Standard play and give my impression of if it could come back or should stay rotated forever in alphabetical order.

Now I know AMG has rotated many of these out to force more character and affiliation specific cards which in theory I am all for but I've built many rosters where cards like Recall or Warpath just fill up the roster because there plain and simply aren't any other options left. And that problem only gets worse in affiliations with a low amount of faction specific cards.

There's absolutely not a single reason this card should ever see Standard play again in its original form. It was used absolutely solely for Turn 1 jank and it's good that it's out of the game. However there could be a new version to the same effect that maybe only starts working from round 2 onwards, which probably would still be very strong but not break the game as badly as this card did.

A card that was already banned when I started playing in 2022 and for a very good reason. Jane Foster now got a personal similar version of that and of course it's much easier to have effects such as this locked to a specific character. It has much more counterplay and it can be balanced around that character. Absolutely no chance to see this one back.

This one was also already gone when I started playing. I'm not sure who broke the card. Potentially Juggernaut. And it basically turns everyone else into Juggernaut/Nova for an activation (kind of). I really like the concept of the card and I think as a restricted it could work in today's game. Yell at me in the Reddit comments or on my discord why I'm 100% wrong about this 😁

And if nothing else, it's a very dope artwork.

Definitely not the best artwork on the list hire in my opinion. Another card I've never seen active and for very good reason I think. This basically completely devastates an enemy squad for an entire round of the game. No chance to see this one back.

This card is back in the form of the Spider-Foes affiliated Custom Upgrades. It absolutely won't be back in its original form.

Seems to have broken the game somehow but I'm not sure it's That powerful 🤔

Cool, thematic, strong. Very unlikely to ever return. You need to have a Natasha Romanov in your squad nowadays to achieve something similar (Vertical Assistance).

A former restricted card that basically never saw any play once it was restricted as it couldn't beat out the competition there. It's a very strong effect but requires a lot of setup. I don't think it would suddenly break the game if it would return.

Yeah, no way in hell Drop Off would ever return. If you like the effect go and play A-Force. It's very strong there but of course much easier to balance around one affiliation and She-Hulk than the entire game. (Special Delivery)

More conditional and non repeatable Eye in the Sky. I would like to see this one back as a restricted option personally.

Great artwork and I think the price for the effect is fair enough to be considered fine. It is of course an effect that is potentially game winning but there are more cards of that caliber that aren't rotated.

It was mostly Beta Ray Bill who broke the card in an era of the game where safe Grabs and midline extracts where all the rage. I could see this one back as a restricted and I don't think it would be too much personally.

A super fun and thematic card that didn't see basically any play while it was in the rotation. Would be a fun option to see again.

Reading the card explains why it's been rotated and will never see the light of day again.

A really nice artwork for a card that should stay dead and buried for all eternity. It just created such an extreme and unfair attrition boost and rewarded that with a very high chance of keeping/gaining priority that even when restricted it was just too much.

A card that never saw play before it was gone but more interesting in today's world where it deals the maximum damage any terrain throw can deal and throwing M is quite good. A card I can see and would like to come back.

A perfectly fine trade off in power cost and having to use a card for a mediocre Spender you'll do for the Explosive alone. Fine and could be back and not have a huge impact on the game in my opinion.

Yeah no, absolutely not. It's a very old card but I'm still not sure how this ever got through play test.

This is back as an Asgard affiliated card in the form of Freyja's Blessing and it isn't super good there either and it certainly didn't break the game in this form. Could return with little impact on the game.

Look at that glorious artwork! Sadly Apocalypse doesn't let us have nice things as AMG wisely acknowledged before his release that he would break the card and removed it. *cries in Baron Strucker Hydra*

Recalibration Matrix is the most played TTC in the game ever since the collision changes and this would give players another version of the card limited to the attack roll. Which is probably too much as we see with Servants of the Apocalypse who still have two Recalls.

Man it felt great to play this against Web Warriors who were one of the two Kings of the game at the time. It's very strong but situational. I don't think it would be too bad to bring it back. But I'm less certain here than with other cards.

Kill it with fire and throw that stupid SHIELD affiliated Battlefield Medicine right in with it.

Mission Objective is very cool in concept but it was abused mostly by Web Warriors in their most eregious days where if you finally were able to daze/ KO one of them they would just throw the extract onto the next unreasonably tanky Spider-Person.
Not the worst offender on the list here and maybe OK as a restricted card but most likely still too strong.

More Symbiotes would be nice in the game, wouldn't they? The potential to use a TTC to end an enemy characters activation with them being dazed or KOed was probably deemed too much even if I think the cost investment doesn't quite weigh up to the potential. It's similar to Shadow King where sure his trap has the Potential to be the strongest one in the game but when does that ever actually happen? I have not seen this card in action as it was already out when I started playing but I would like to see it's impact in today's game.

The Healing Factor characters pretty much broke this card, as they could basically just do a free Spender with it and just heal the damage taken back up. Spider-Man 2099 has a similar effect nowadays locked to him specifically.

A card that would be perfectly fine to come back in my opinion.

This card never saw a lot of play but it would have been a good tool against Web Warriors during their reign of terror. Also good against Convocation as was probably the intent. Nowadays also good against Sentinels. Maybe being good against a wide variety of enemies was it's downfall or maybe we could see this one back and it would be a great tool to have in your belt for the right situations.

I feel like the removal of Extract you can hold multiple of in the new Challenger Rotation makes this one less of a problem. Because at most you'll be able to secure 1 VP with it nowadays which seems totally fine to me.

This falls into the same category as No Escape where yes ending the enemy's activation is super strong but we have several characters with Counter Strike so having it on a TTC should be fine doesn't it? Well I think it's the fact that it's someone else playing the card and not the target character that has been it's downfall as the counter play is much harder.

Flight for a round but a 1/4 chance for Stun and a 1/8 for Stun and Stagger after the round seems like a decent trade off. But of course if you just won the game by using the card you didn't care about any potential downsides. Timing is was killed the card I think.

Yeah OK any character in the game being able to "Got Your Back" is definitely too much and can be broken by too many models.

This card was used by exactly one model: Dormammu. And if would have been great for the Sentinels nowadays as well. Dorm is very good on his own nowadays so the card might put him (and the Sentinels) over the edge now.

I don't recall anyone ever actively using this card. It would go hard in Bastion led Sentinels nowadays I think but power denial is a cool and rare archetype so a highly conditional card to support that style probably wouldn't break the game.

This has come back into the game as Sitrep in SHIELD who are famous for having their own versions of rotated and banned cards affiliated.

It's probably too good as a generic card.

The third part of the Recall trilogy. Here you only reroll the Defense dice. Can't be in the game with Recall. Probably extremely unpopular opinion: I think it might be cooler to have this and Kun'-Lun Training and rotate Recall.

This card would be totally fine to come back. As players we don't like TTCs without a guaranteed effect but at least the one you're betting on here is a pretty good one. I'm not sure it would see a lot of play even if it came back.

I'd like to see this one back as a character specific card for Drax. As it is it's definitely too strong when used with certain characters. I wouldn't want to be facing two 9 dice Builders from Dracula for example.

Rightfully replaced by the more thematically fitting and much fairer (and weaker) Instant Recovery. Now should Odin's Blessing still be in the game when this is gone? Debatable but at least the Asgardians don't combine Healing Factor with the card.

That's it for today.

Cheers from Germany 🍻

Affiliation Overview: Spider-Foes (2026 update)

Why should you play the affiliation  Are you a somewhat of a scientist yourself? Do you like crushing arachnids? Do you love making overly complicated plans and see them ruined by a teenager?  Spider-Foes are a super fun faction, which boosts the best looking line of miniatures in the game and a very fun and unique play style with tricks and traps.  How to start the affiliation  As long as it's available you absolutely start with the Spider-Foes Starter set. It's the so gle best deal in MCP and probably all of tabletop wargaming.  The only characters you're missing out of the affiliation after that are:  Kingpin (available in the Criminal Syndicate Affiliation pack, which is a good additional pick up after the starter set)  Doctor Octopus (available in the Spider-Foes Affiliation Pack or Rivals Panel)  Doc Ock, Sinister Scientist (available in the Earth Mightiest Core Set, a good additional pick up if you need terrain) Venom (currently de f...

Affiliation Overview: Web Warriors

Why should you play the affiliation  Peter Parker is the single most popular character in the world. Miles and Gwen share between them the focus of the two best superhero movies of all time and are extremely popular characters in their own rights.  On the table Web Warriors are a supreme objective play team building off of their core of incredible 3 threats. They are big enough nowadays to offer different approaches too though.  How to start the affiliation  Untypically I don't think getting the affiliation pack is always the best way to start here. While Miles and Gwen are absolute core models to the affiliation, 4 threat Peter Parker will very rarely (if ever) see the table and Venom is decent but really up to personal taste. And seeing how the only real benefit of the affiliation pack is getting the additional Peter for free you can really decide if that's worth it for you. If you own core set 1 you already have the character and if you own core set ...

Affiliation Overview: Defenders (updated)

Why should you play the affiliation  Defenders are a giant affiliation containing both the more mystic focused Defenders of Doctor Strange and also the Marvel Knights which made up the Netflix show Defenders.  On the board Defenders have a super deep roster with a tonne of great characters and some variety in play style.  How to start the affiliation Update: In Q2 2025 AMG releases the Defenders affiliation pack which uniquely comes with five models in Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You have to pick this pack up first and absolutely should.  After that I would first pick up Shang-Chi and Silver Sable followed by Hulk and then Namor and Black Panther, Chosen of Bast. You have your core very much there. The affiliation is very deep and has a lot of good characters but with those mentioned you have your probably most used models in hand already. Also all of the affiliated TTCs. Just note that Pentagrams of Falafel (let me have fun with t...
